Hi! Long time no write. Well, boy do I have something to write about now - and I had to really think about which blog to post it on. Since this is about my art on fabric and not solely about fabric, I put it on www.lidaenche.com, which you can get to by clicking "Back to my blog about art". </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wbM4YnkOh_0/T-0mJvGKkrI/AAAAAAAABGo/sArrVywa_Ss/s1600/PaintedSummer_LidaEnche%25231.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wbM4YnkOh_0/T-0mJvGKkrI/AAAAAAAABGo/sArrVywa_Ss/s400/PaintedSummer_LidaEnche%25231.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, click on that tab and come join me on my other blog to see some photos of the fabric that I have waited so long to hold in my hands. Here is a sneak peek. :)</div>Lida Enchehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12025180680378308391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307388369682121213.post-43465329446433111572012-05-24T11:41:00.000-07:002012-05-24T11:42:05.640-07:00Show and TellI like to think of my fabric, patiently sitting on a store shelf, just waiting to be discovered by a creative soul who I hope will enjoy and lovingly transform it into a thing of their own. Since my first fabric collection, September Light, has been out in stores, I have been surprised and delighted to have seen so many very different examples of what can be done with it. It is truly amazing that every person has their own take on what to do and that has been such an exciting surprise! I though I would share with you a few "show and tells" -<br />
<br />
To my delight, I got an email from a woman named <a href="http://brigantiadesigns.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Kim McBirnie</a> all the way from England saying that she had made a quilt with my fabric. I just loooove when this happens - and am so curious to see what has been made. Kim has great quilting blog with a funny name that I love - <a href="http://brigantiadesigns.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">"Never Teach a Chicken to Quilt"</a> - she even has pet chickens that she includes in some of her posts! From what I can tell, Kim started quilting at the beginning of the year and has made two quilts using September Light. Here they are!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zC1mkjqlNE8/T75whQmaIRI/AAAAAAAABEg/J0Pnn5GR6gQ/s1600/DSC_0002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zC1mkjqlNE8/T75whQmaIRI/AAAAAAAABEg/J0Pnn5GR6gQ/s1600/DSC_0002.JPG" /></a></div>
I love how she used white to frame the rich colors of the fabric, and the large flower print on the border and then dark purple really frames it so nicely.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-upwL4Lr-QwM/T75wlUAkAiI/AAAAAAAABEo/0kynRsB2WBE/s1600/DSC_0009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-upwL4Lr-QwM/T75wlUAkAiI/AAAAAAAABEo/0kynRsB2WBE/s1600/DSC_0009.JPG" /></a></div>
Below is the first one she made - this was as a birthday present - and has a quote from Peter Pan - "Second star to the right - and straight on till morning". Nice present!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-StCnrFjk9eI/T753f9n5RwI/AAAAAAAABFE/yQCSQgBhPuY/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-StCnrFjk9eI/T753f9n5RwI/AAAAAAAABFE/yQCSQgBhPuY/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" /></a></div>
My second show and tell comes from <a href="http://www.quiltingdaily.com/members/lindsey.murray/default.aspx" target="_blank">Lindsey Murray</a> at the <a href="http://www.interweave.com/" target="_blank">Interweave</a> blog, <a href="http://www.quiltingdaily.com/blogs/behind_the_scenes/archive/2012/04/18/fabric-tins-for-the-kitchen-plus-a-fabric-giveaway.aspx" target="_blank">Quilting Daily</a>. She posted on covering tea tins with fabric. Thought it was a cute, fast and easy project - and could be applied not just to tea tins, but other storage containers as well.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wuwMfz6Zy7s/T756yzwC0WI/AAAAAAAABFQ/WQTGPATykXk/s1600/5282.step%25201.jpg-450x0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wuwMfz6Zy7s/T756yzwC0WI/AAAAAAAABFQ/WQTGPATykXk/s320/5282.step%25201.jpg-450x0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I also love the idea of "repurposing"perfectly good things that might otherwise end up in recycling or at the dump.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rZlcZZirh4o/T7562bqldZI/AAAAAAAABFY/iaICkJFIADc/s1600/3162-1.finished%25201.jpg-450x0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rZlcZZirh4o/T7562bqldZI/AAAAAAAABFY/iaICkJFIADc/s320/3162-1.finished%25201.jpg-450x0.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
And, last but not at all least, Paula, who is the Wholesale Manager at <a href="http://inthebeginningfabrics.com/" target="_blank">In the Beginning</a> made what's called an "origami" purse - check it out on their <a href="http://inthebeginningfabrics.wordpress.com/2011/09/22/pretty-fabric-purses/" target="_blank">blog</a>~ She was clever to make it double the size of the pattern, so it's the perfect size to carry almost anything, and what you don't see are the multitude of pockets and alternating fabric on the inside.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JjnLyeb15n0/T758tDzrA9I/AAAAAAAABFg/VueZsX6piDw/s1600/september-light-purse.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-JjnLyeb15n0/T758tDzrA9I/AAAAAAAABFg/VueZsX6piDw/s320/september-light-purse.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
I am continually pleasantly surprised to see all of the different ways that people use the same fabric. Now, with my second fabric collection, "Painted Summer" being printed at the mill as I write this, the cycle will start over. The difference is that now I have one extra thing to look forward to! Happy sewing/quilting/whatever makes you happy!<br />

A friend called me yesterday and said "Do you know that <a href="http://www.inthebeginningfabrics.com/cgi-server/itb/displayfab.cgi?product=septlght" target="_blank">September Light</a> is in <a href="http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/magazines/americanpatchworkquilting/index.html" target="_blank">American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine</a>"? I had no idea! So here it is. The pattern is using four "pineapple" blocks and was made by quilt tester, Laura Boehnke. The instructions are at <a href="http://allpeoplequilt.com/623">allpeoplequilt.com/623</a>. The quilt was inspired by <em>Pineapple Rings</em> from designer Lynn Schmitt-Cibulka of a <u><a href="http://www.adifferentboxofcrayons.com/" target="_blank">Different Box of Crayons</a></u>. So interesting how everyone has their own take on what do do with the fabric!Lida Enchehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12025180680378308391noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307388369682121213.post-53858521686452421582011-12-31T14:20:00.000-08:002012-02-07T09:32:23.708-08:00"From Paintings to Fabric" Art Show<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So now that I have all this fabric, I am having fun thinking about what to do with it...so many possibilities! One idea - I used to make jewelry and even sold it at a few stores around Seattle - what if I made jewelry with my fabric? Here is a photo of the start of an idea (its all about the process isn't it?). I'll post photos of the jewelry once it's done - and who knows? If it turns out, I might even put a few pieces in my Etsy (currently under construction) shop. Thank you Kathy, for sharing a photo of this super cute apron/smock! She used a great pattern that's easy and includes really big pockets - gotta love the big pockets. The pattern is from the book <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Impatient-Patchworker-Great-Projects-Hurry/dp/0307336581">"The Impatient Patchworker: 20 Great Projects You Can Make in a Hurry"</a> by <a href="http://www.jayneemerson.co.uk/">Jayne Emerson</a>. This book is perfect if all you want is an afternoon project and to go to sleep knowing that you made something great, and it's <u>done</u>. It's also great for using up scraps and making presents - plus - the photos are really pretty.Lida Enchehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12025180680378308391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-307388369682121213.post-51060342392378668372011-09-13T12:00:00.000-07:002011-09-13T13:11:09.429-07:00Mango Tango Quilt<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Laurie Shifrin - the first person I posted about on this blog - has done it again! Here is a beautiful quilt she made with her pattern, <a href="http://laurieshifrindesigns.wordpress.com/welcome/mango-tango-patterncover/">Mango Tango</a> using my fabric line, September Light. Laurie teaches classes, creates quilt patterns, writes book about quilting and also sells kits - and this is one of them! <a href="http://laurieshifrindesigns.wordpress.com/kits-and-fabrics/">Click here to get more info about this kit</a> or about <a href="http://laurieshifrindesigns.wordpress.com/about/">Laurie</a>. Thank you, Laurie! <br />

Remember how I was saying I felt a dress coming on? Well, I
guess I wasn't kidding - once I started making this dress, yada yada
yada it was 1 in the morning! This little number is the <a href="http://www.favoritethings.net/patterns/wearables/the_wrap_dress">"Wrap Dress" pattern by "Favorite Things"</a>. What's nice is that it's pretty <i>and</i> comfortable - and NO ZIPPERS to sew. yay. I adjusted the normally just above the knee pattern a bit to instead fall right below the knee (had to make extra violet "flounce" but I think it worked out just fine). Here are photos of my first project. It was so strange and exciting to cut up images of paintings that I worked so hard to put together. But - I'm getting over it... and I feel a dress coming on... :) This bag pattern is called the "Folklore Bag" and is from the fun and funky book, "<a href="http://www.storey.com/book_detail.php?isbn=9781603424493&cat=Crafts&p=0">One Yard Wonders</a>" - where every pattern uses only one yard of fabric. I will be dropping off this bag at <a href="http://westseattlefabriccompany.com/">West Seattle Fabric Company</a> - my friendly neighborhood fabric shop.<br />

<br />
And what's funny is that <a href="http://laurieshifrindesigns.wordpress.com/">Laurie Shifrin</a> beat me to the punch when it comes to the first person to actually make something with the fabric! So, I think it's fitting that her beautiful work should be the first in this blog, too. She is a wonderfully talented professional quilt designer who whipped up four placemats and a table runner using her own soon-to-be-released pattern called "Making Waves". <a href="http://laurieshifrindesigns.wordpress.com/">Click here</a> if you would like to get more info on her quilt designs, kits, classes and books.<br />
<br />
And here's the result of her beautiful work! Thank you, Laurie - I loooove them!<br />
